Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of all Time

Rolling Stone magazine brought out their top 500 list first in 2003 and updated it in 2009. It makes a fascinating read in magazine form but lacks one thing of major importance … that is, the music, the actual albums.  To read it alone on the dunny is like experiencing deafness for the first time, you desperately want to hear the music, but the pages remain silent.

However, we can thank the collective genius of our 21st century for another thing of equally major importance … that is, YouTube. So you want to see the Marx Brothers “crowded cabin” scene from A Night at the Opera again? Go YouTube! You want to hear the 500 greatest albums of all time in order of their selection by Rolling Stone mag, still under the legendary leadership of Jann Wenner? Well …

HERE IT IS! The first entirely unauthorised attempt at linking together the world’s greatest musicianship from the last 70 years! An unbiased selection devoid of taste and sense, with no Midnight Oil, no Crowded House! No, better than that, because for every RS-500 album I can’t find online I propose to put up one of our own antipodean favourites, which should cover for the Rolling Stone northern hemisphere bias. I might even put up the JJJ top 100 Australian albums …

HELP! I CAN”T GET NO ** … If you find something that I can’t, or want to link your own favourite in here, get in touch as soon as possible. In the meantime I might post individual title songs from the missing albums, but I’m not promising anything. I can’t guarantee either that videos I post won’t be pulled down again sometime later.

Please note – not being in any way associated with the editorial process at RS mag I am in no way responsible for the selection of these albums, nor do I accept any liability for the availability or otherwise of all 500 albums. That would be ridiculous. Don’t even try. I won’t consider freedom of liability from copyright infringement so you can forget that too.

So here they are … and arguably THE NUMBER ONE GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME IS …
